Color can be tricky, especially if you’re just starting to work with a loom. But never fear! I have 3 color tips specifically for beginning weavers coming your way in episode 64 of A Handwoven Experience!
Here they are – #1 pick just one color as the focus, #2 add a neighbor from the color wheel, and #3 include a neutral. Using only these simple tips, you can assemble a great variety of colors for your next weaving project. So let’s get to it!
Show Notes –
Color in weaving – Have you heard of Tien Chiu? She’s a weaver who focuses on color and I found a great article highlighting two of her observations when it comes to color. It’s very interesting! You can read it all right here.
2021 Colors – Have you created a project using the official Pantone colors for 2021 yet? If not, now would be a fabulous time – especially if you are on the hunt for some color inspiration. Look no further! Take these colors of the year and let’s run with it!
A note about color – Pairing colors together is a little bit science, and a little bit intuition. So when determining what colors go into your upcoming project, be sure to use both your mind and your gut to give you guidance. Mostly, the goal is to put some yarns into your loom so you can try it, learn from it, and then do it again just a little differently next time. Happy Weaving!
Now, you!
How do you select colors for your weaving projects?
