Looms are amazing, aren’t they? In honor of these strong, beautiful pieces, here is my “Love Letter to a Loom”!
Looms have survived thousands of years of history and influenced us in a multitude of ways. And yet, there are SO many different wonderful types of choose from!
So, now is the time to show your loom some love and appreciate just how awesome it is! Let me know about your loom(s) and how you adore them. And if you are considering getting a loom, trust me when I say that you will absolutely love it!
Show Notes –
Make your own backstrap loom – While I’ve attempted backstrap weaving (back in the day when my extremely heavy tv held down the opposite end!), I found a fascinating blog about not just making your own loom, but carving the pieces and foraging for things! Yep, it is very creative and hunt-and-gather-ish! I will never be the person who finds the tree limb and whittles it down the correct size and shape, but I really admire those who do! Without further adieu, here is Kimberly Hamill’s blog post on making your own backstrap loom.
Parts of a Loom Guide – If you are a shiny new weaver with a brand new loom, I have a FREEBIE ready for you! It’s the Parts of a Loom guide! In it, you’ll find not only a diagram of a 4-shaft floom loom, but also a short helpful description of each part and its importance. It’s the perfect cheat sheet to keep nearby as you learn to weave!
