Dear friends, I’m gathering you here today to discuss the magic of tie-ups.
You see, while these simple cords may appear completely unassuming, they are actually quite powerful. Magical, even. With a simple flick of the wrist, you can move tie-ups around and transform your handwoven fabric. Amazing!
I hope you enjoy episode 180 of A Handwoven Experience and begin looking at your tie-ups with fresh eyes.
Show Notes –
Flipping your Tie-Ups – At some point in the future as you weave a new draft, you may find that the pattern is upside down. The main culprit here has to do with the type of loom you are working on, versus the type of loom the draft was written for, and an easy fix is to switch your tie-ups. I found a great blog post from Janet Dawson addressing this exact challenge. She does a wonderful job with the visuals so you can easily determine how to tweak your tie-ups to switch the pattern. This link will take you right there so you can see for yourself.
Treadles & Tie-Ups – If you are brand new to the world of tie-ups, might I recommend an earlier episode that focuses on the basics of both tie-ups and treadles (they go hand-in-hand!)? Click here to watch episode 35, “Treadles & Tie-Ups”.
