In this week’s episode of A Handwoven Experience, I am providing an introduction to weaver’s guilds. Weaver’s guilds are a fabulous way to connect with other weavers and fiber lovers, all while learning new techniques/tricks and taking on a challenge or two.
In a nutshell, being a member of a weaver’s guild is a fabulous method for growing as a weaver without taking a million classes or attending all the conferences. Mind you, I LOVE weaving classes and fiber conferences! But, this is much more organic and casual. You won’t even realize the great strides you’ve made until you look back on earlier projects.
Plus for us solo artists, a weaver’s guild provides an amazing community! These are your people. They understand the hiccups and frustrations that happen when navigating a weaving project. And for the record, you will be hard-pressed to find a more knowledgeable group of weavers anywhere. You could fill books and books with all the important and random tidbits they have stored in their noggins. It’s amazing!

Show Notes –
Weaver’s Guild – A weaver’s guild is a group designed to education, inspire, and provide community for fellow weavers and fiber lovers. You can find a fabulous list of guilds at the Handweaver’s Guild of America website.
Duneland Weaver’s Guild – This is the guild I belong to in NW Indiana. They have been around for over 70 years and are still a very active group!
Show ‘n Tell – You know what I’m talking about, right? When you were in kindergarten and you brought in your favorite toy. Only in this case, it refers to unbelievable woven projects done by members of the group. If you choose to be brave enough to share, I promise the reward will be tenfold. And as a spectator, show ‘n tell is my absolute favorite portion of the monthly meetings!
