Weaving is magical because it offers us so many ways to be creative: the yarns we choose, the patterns we select, the colors we combine. And then there’s name drafting. This time-honored technique allows you to create unique patterns based on names, phrases and even dates. It’s the perfect way to add a very personal touch to your project. And because I’m also new to name drafting, I invited my dear friend Christy Loftin to join this week’s episode of A Handwoven Experience and give us a name drafting overview. I hope you’ll be inspired to try name drafting in one of your projects. Happy weaving!
Name Drafting with Christy Loftin
Show Notes
Not only did Christy give us an amazing name drafting primer, but she also created a name drafted pattern just for us! She drafted a pattern using the phrase “Warped Weavers Acton Creative Community” and was kind enough to share the draft with us. Ready to learn more about name drafting? Linda Ligon gives a good perspective in her article titled “The Hidden Messages of Name Drafts” from the January 2018 issue of Handwoven magazine. Click here to check it out!
Online Weavers’ Guild
Christy Loftin is also a member of our Online Weavers’ Guild and gave a more extensive presentation on name drafting during our June meeting. Want to check it out? Simply join the Guild today and you’ll have access to the recording, plus you’ll be part of a community of weavers who love weaving as much as you do. The Acton Creative Online Weaver’s Guild is a place where you can spend time with other weavers, share your weaving stories, trade tips, and learn a few things along the way. We meet once a month over Zoom, host an ongoing members-only chat so that we don’t lose touch in between meetings, take part in quarterly weaving challenges, and more. We’re saving you a seat!
