Did you know that you have a top secret weaver’s superpower? Sadly, it’s not the ability to see through walls, or fly in invisible jets. (That would be cool, no doubt!)
You, my friend, have the ability to transform any piece of clothing or fabric household item and give it a brand new life!! Just by being a weaver! (You have to read the fine print, but it’s in the contract from when you bought the loom. “This special superpower will be bestowed on you on this date.”)
In today’s episode of A Handwoven Experience, I’m sharing with you a gentle reminder that you are uniquely qualified to make something new from something old. So if you’re in the process of paring down your worldly goods (aka, decluttering, or happily getting rid of crap), keep in mind that you have multiple choices – keep it, let it go, or incorporate it into a weaving project. Enjoy!
Show Notes –
Rag rugs – One of the most familiar vehicles for weaving and repurposing is the classic rag rug. I’m sure you know someone who had one in their kitchen growing up. A rag rug is made up of a sturdy yarn for the warp and strips of rags for the weft. Gist has a lovely blog post all about these warm, cozy, sturdy pieces that protect the floor. Click here to read their notes.
Weaving & Recycling – Back at episode 28, I first introduced the idea of weaving and recycling being best friends! In the video, I walk you through some ideas of what and how you can use non-yarn items in your handwoven fabric. It’s an oldie, but a goodie! Watch episode 28 of A Handwoven Experience right here.
